The Hidden Persecution of Christian Refugees

BEIRUT, LEBANON – Missions Box News has published myriads of articles over the past several years informing our readers of the global refugee crisis. The families displaced by the Syrian conflict have been a major focal point of the crisis for global media outlets.Recently, reports have begun to surface, not only about the common plight of the families in Middle Eastern refugee camps but about the untold story of the persecution of many of the Christian refugees in camps operated by the United Nations.

Recently, reports have begun to surface about the untold story of the persecution of many of the Christian refugees in camps operated by the United Nations.

Questions began to arise when investigative journalists began to question why “thousands of Muslims are sent to Western countries, and only a trickle of Christians are getting out.” Further inquiries exposed two main problems for Christians who are attempting to avoid being caught in harm’s way.

They Can’t Get In

Voice of the Martyrs Canada (VOMC) reported that “A substantial number of [Christian refugees] are being blocked by United Nations officials when attempting to enter the camps.”

Sources on the ground have told BosNewsGlobal reporters that many Syrian Christians are not allowed to enter refugee camps even if only to access food and water.

Why is this happening?

Because a majority (one source says 99 percent) of the UN guards and officials in control of the camps are Muslims.

Paul Diamond, a British attorney investigating the matter, described the problem:

“You have this absurd situation where the scheme is set up to help Syrian refugees. (But) the people most in need, Christians who have been “genocided,” they can’t even get into the U.N. camps to get the food. “If you enter and say, ‘I am a Christian or convert,’ the Muslim U.N. guards will block you [from] getting in. And laugh at you and mock you and even threaten you.”

A Christian refugee, who had been prevented from entering a UN camp, reported that the Muslim officials treated the Christians as enemies.

They Can’t Get Out

Christian refugees face much the same problem when seeking permission to emigrate to Western nations. The officials in charge are Muslim. A CBN News report said, “There is clear evidence there is discrimination by the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) in Jordan against Christians.” The refugees cannot get out because they are not permitted to leave.

Factoid: Tens of thousands of Syrian refugees have been settled in the United States. Less that one percent are Christians.

Many of those who manage to find asylum are mistreated because the European countries to which they flee confront them with a double whammy. They face unexpected persecution by the established, growing Muslim population and the secular, atheistic, post-Christian culture.

Factoid: Sweden, for example, is home to more than 170,000 Islamic congregations.

These Christian refugees and their daily suffering are rarely on our minds. Missions Box News challenges believers to add them to your daily prayer lists and ask the Lord to comfort, encourage, and protect them from despair and persecution.
