Homes Built for 20 Families Impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Texas

LA GRANGE, TX — Leticia Jaimes wiped away tears as she walked through her new home for the first time. She paused in the living room, overwhelmed, and fell into the embrace of her mother, Elena. Mother and daughter hugged and cried together, knowing that this day would mark the beginning of many new family memories.

Leticia received the keys to her new home during a special ceremony on May 12 with family, neighbors, community members, and Samaritan’s Purse volunteers and leaders. Her home is one of 20 new houses built for victims of Hurricane Harvey in a new La Grange neighborhood constructed by Samaritan’s Purse.

Luther Harrison, Vice President of North American Ministries, Samaritan’s Purse:

We’re here in La Grange, Texas, at Hope Hill. And here we are today, we’re celebrating the 20th home.

These families have been through Hurricane Harvey, and a lot of these families were displaced.

In less than two years, we built 20 homes for 20 families that have been displaced.

Leticia Jaimes, Homeowner:

I lost everything. I don’t have nothing.

Thank you. I’m so excited for me and my kids. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it, no. Now I’m in shock. I can’t believe it yet.

Luther Harrison:

We were here for the first home dedication; now we’re here for the last. But every one of these families has been given a new home because with God all things are possible.
