JAPAN — Christmas may be a totally commercial season in Japan, but people are open to the true meaning of the celebration. So Japanese Christians are finding many creative ways to share about Jesus’ birth and why He came to earth.
The Christmas season provides a unique opportunity for Christian witness in Japan. This is the one time of the year where churches can openly and freely share the gospel in public outside of a prescribed religious setting.
As Japan is not a Christian nation, it is one of the few countries in the world where Christmas Day is not a national holiday but is a regular workday.
However the weeks leading up to Christmas Eve, present plenty of opportunities for special Christmas events and concerts where the Gospel can be shared.
Hearing about the true meaning of Christmas does not offend anyone, and so presents great opportunities to share the true meaning of Christmas with those who are keen to understand.
Operation Blessing Japan has a schedule of events happening at their Blessing Room outreach center in Minami Soma, Fukushima.
These events for children and adults, present great opportunities for sharing of the Gospel story.
Operation Blessing is also cooperating with partners in different parts of Japan to distribute a Christmas gift of rice, and a kind word, to those that were affected by disasters during the year, or are living alone.
Japanese believers ask for prayer that the light of Gospel will touch many hearts during this season.
