Expert HHS Officials And Addiction Treatment Providers to Give Practical Training For Combating the Opioid CrisisForest, Va. — Featuring the participation of the Department of Health and Human Services, the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) is offering a FREE specialized training in opioid crisis response for mental health leaders, pastors, coaches, lay helpers, concerned family members and community leaders on November 1 as part of its 2018 “New Life” Summit in Charlotte, NC. The training, titled “The Opioid Crisis: Creating an Effective Church and Community Collaboration and Resolution Response,” will include expert presenters from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. This training follows two previous free training events in Dallas, TX and York, PA earlier this year.
The opioid crisis was responsible for 75% of the reported 64,000 overdose deaths in 2017, prompting the Trump administration to declare the epidemic a national emergency.
“The opioid crisis has twisted its addictive tentacles into the lives of far too many Americans,” says Dina Jones, Director of Professional and Public Relations at the AACC, “which is why the AACC is proud to offer such critical training to equip those on the front lines with a better understanding of the effects of opioid addiction on the body, mind and soul. The core of this program is designed to boost collaboration between mental health professionals, government leaders, health care providers, churches and community organizations to fight the epidemic.”
Dr. Tim Clinton, AACC president, says the Church must “help lead the way” in addressing the national opioid crisis. He went on to say, “the AACC is honored to have the participation of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help bring awareness and specialized training to counselors, pastors and more.”
Attendees will learn how to identify an opioid addiction, support family members, begin and strengthen local programs and how to advocate for pain management as an alternative to opioid prescription.
Five (5) CE credits are available for attending this training for a small fee, to be paid on-site.
