The Light FM dedicates WMIT’s Mt. Mitchell transmitter facility to broadcasting legend, E. Harold Munn, Jr.E. Harold Munn, Jr. was a driving force behind the mission of BRB, leaving a significant mark on the Christian broadcasting industry. Munn consulted as a broadcast engineer for Blue Ridge Broadcasting since its founding by Billy and Ruth Graham in 1962.

Will Graham, executive vice president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, said, “I am grateful that E. Harold Munn, Jr. was a personal friend of my grandfather, Billy Graham. He personally served my grandfather and advanced the radio station into what it is today.”

The transmitter site dedicated to Munn is the location of The Light FM’s flagship outlet, WMIT, situated in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Located adjacent to Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, WMIT’s antenna rises 6,745 feet above sea level, 61 feet above Mt. Mitchell’s peak.

“E. Harold’s contributions gave shape to Blue Ridge Broadcasting’s technical and strategic mission; from AM radio’s heyday to the introduction of smartphone apps for digital streaming. The plans we make in the years ahead to reach listeners with the hope found in Jesus Christ will be built upon plans E. Harold Munn, Jr. spoke into years back,” said Jim Kirkland, executive director of BRB. “We’re honored to dedicate one of America’s most unique transmitter sites to his legacy and to convey our gratitude to his widow and family.”

The Munn family joined The Light FM staff and board members for the dedication ceremony. To learn more about The Light FM visit, www.TheLightFM.org.
