Ijanada Hopes Again After Boko Haram Kidnapping

WEST AFRICA — Ijanada was a teenager when she was kidnapped by the Islamic militant Boko Haram. When she returned home in West Africa, her community rejected her. Thanks to Open Doors partners she is going through a healing process through trauma care.

Ijanada, Boko Haram Survivor, 2019:

I faced so much suffering, hunger, mistreatment and pain. I kept thinking of my family and the memories we shared before I was kidnapped.

Ijanada was abducted by Boko Haram as a teenager. She was forcefully married to a fighter and was pregnant with her second child when she escaped.

However like many women kidnapped by Boko Haram, Ijanada faced rejection from her own community when she returned home.

Ijanada is receiving trauma care through Open Doors partners to help her to heal.

Ijanada, 2022:

After my escape you helped me with trauma care. I am so grateful. Your prayers have really kept me going. I am so happy. Thank you so much. God has been with us all the while. He has protected us. You never forget me. Today you travelled to my house again, just to see me and my children. I’m so grateful. May God bless you.
